About us

The mission of the Green Spring Fire Department is to provide fire and ems services to the community and citizens of Washington County, Virginia to preserve life and property and to provide public education. To quickly respond to any emergency, proudly provide professional involvement with honesty, and to constantly pursue improvement and growth within our membership.

Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department was established circa 1980. A few men of the community realized the fire protection was inadequate since the nearest responding department was over 10 miles away. The struggle was difficult for the department to become organized but with persistence, Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department became a reality. The department has been devoted to protecting and preserving life, property and educating the community in fire prevention / protection. Early on they made do with any and everything they could get that was donated or salvaged from anyone. After getting by for two years, the county and local departments began funding the department. After becoming incorporated as a tax exempt organization and becoming chartered, it was official that Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department was here to stay. Thirty plus years later, the growth and membership speaks for itself. We gladly embrace our forefathers as many of them are still active and dedicated members. We are always welcoming those with a desire to help make the community a better place to join our ranks. Drop by or call the station anytime. There's often members that are at the department.

We thank our founders, life members, honorary members and current members for all they have done and do to help us protect our community. A big thanks goes out to the community that we are there for, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It is a privilege and honor to serve you.
